Have you ever wondered why the marriage/divorce rate is so high? Have you ever wondered why there are as many suicides? Have you ever given serious thought to the life you live? Have you ever wondered how much love and respect you keep vs. how much love and respect you give? 1 Cor. 13 says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." All too often "love" tends to be a one-way street. A one-way street in the sense that we tend to care about others so much that we actually can forget to love ourselves as well.
Loving ourselves is so vital to the relationships that we keep with others. But how can loving ourselves be more impactful in our pursuit of loving others? The bible in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Loving ourselves began with the love of Jesus. Loving others begins with loving ourselves. If we love Jesus then we know how to love ourselves. If we love ourselves then we know how to love someone else. There is another side to this though. If we have love for ourselves and we have a love for Jesus and know what love is through His example, then we recognize when a lack of love is expressed toward us.
In the world that we live in today, many people express love in many ways but when difficulties arise, a line seems to be drawn between how much love and respect we give ourselves vs. How much love and respect we give to the other person or people involved. We downgrade ourselves and upgrade others. Some get emotionally bothered when someone don't give them equal love and respect. It's okay to "think of others more higly than ourselves" as the scriptures teach us but that didn't mean forget about ourselves in the process. When the going gets tough it is easier to live with self than others. We can control self and cannot control what others do. So how much do you love yourself? Do you let the actions of others determine the self-respect and self-confidence you display? The characteristics of love in 1 Cor. 13 have as much to do with how we love ourselves and practice it, as it has to do with the relationship we keep with others. The love of Jesus is universal in action. We are to love our enemies just as much as we love our family and friends. BUT, PLEASE, LET US NOT FORGET HOW IMPORTANT WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LOVING!!! IT IS BETTER TO PRESERVE THE LOVE of CHRIST IN US SO THAT WE CAN EXPRESS LOVE IN THE RIGHT WAY!!! HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE YOURSELF?

The "Newness of Life" in 2011
17Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Every December, as the year prepares to come to a close, there is the great anticipation of the approaching New Year. Many people start to think about the year that was and many think about the year that will be. Many people start thinking about their New Year's Resolutions based on what the, more than likeley, did not accomplish in the prior year. Regardless of what is considered when the New Year gets ready to turn, everyone looks forward to the New Year. There has just something about having a fresh start. Many of us wish we could start our child years over again because of what we know now as adults.
Think about this, though, from a spiritual perspective; when you were baptized you were taught that it was a fresh start. As a matter of fact, the scripture taught us that we were made new and the old was passed away. God, because of His Grace granted us a clean slate, washing away our sins giving us hope when we felt hopeless, stimulating life when we feel lifeless. He gave a light at the end of life's dark tunnel and we have been walking in that marvelous light ever since.
2010 is gone. All the trials we went through, God blessed us to overcome. All the great things that happened, God has blessed us through them. We have met knew people, started new projects, went through the first couple of semesters of classes, among many other things. Now we look to 2011 and we have the whole year ahead of us. We start a new day, new week and and a new month and the "Newness" is still alive. Our God, who is the same God this year as was last year, still expects righteous deeds out of us. We are still called to save lost souls. We are still commanded to share the love of God with all those we come in contact with. God still expects us live according to His purpose and plan.
We must remember, though, that Satan still has plans for 2011 as well. He still wants us to fold under the pressures that we go through this year. He still wants us to question why we live for Him. He still is planning to deceive us, test our faith, make us turn away from the Almighty God. He still wants us to prove that we are still human and have sin in our camps of life. DON'T LET SATAN GET THE UPPER HAND TODAY OR ANY OTHER DAY. Be patient with person, be persistent with your practice, be consistent with the consciousness of your faith in God. The "Newness of Life" in 2011What will be new about your "Newness of Life" of life? Will you bless somebody to see the New Life that you have had for a long time? Allow God to continue to work in your life.

Living Like We Want to Go To Heaven in 2011- 12/27/2010
As we enter the final week of the year 2010, what is on our mind; are we looking back on the year that was or are we looking ahead to the year that will be? Are we thinking of how good the year was in 2010 or are we telling ourselves that we are looking forward to a better year in 2011? Here's a thought: why not think about the blessings that the Lord has blessed us with in 2010 and the trials and tribulations that he helped us get through. Why not focus our minds on praising God for being able to get through another year and thank Him for his grace and mercy.
Around this time of year many people make New Year's Resolutions, vowing to work on themselves; whether it be through gaining or losing weight, saving more money, paying off their bills in order for them to have a peace a mind, among other things. Often times New Year's Resolutions don't get accomplished. About a month into the New Year, they may even forget the resolution they promised to themselves.
This week's Meditation Moments is about LIVING LIKE WE WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN IN 2011. If there is one thing that we can accomplish in 2011, it is showing the world that God is still God and He loves us. In 2 Cor. 5:16-17, Paul says, "So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come." We, as Christians are in this world but we are not of this world. We think different, we talk different and we act different. We smile despite tribulation and we frown at sinful acts. We sorrow at our sin and we pray and ask the Lord to forgive us and keep moving and release the stress like we believe He will take care of it. If we are going to Live Like We Want to Go To Heaven, then we will go into the new year wanting to improve on the old sinful habits of 2010. We will study more in 2011 than we did in 2010, pray with a better mindset in 2011 than we did in 2010. With only four days to go in 2010 we will start preparing our mind to become a better child of God in 2011.
God said, through His prophet Isaiah in chap. 65:17-19, "Behold, I will create
new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying
will be heard in it no more." Matthew Henry, in his biblical commentary said, "Good Christians must enjoy the comforts of this life, and their relations in this world, with a holy indifference." We are a part of the new Jerusalem, we are living in His holy temple. The world around us, that don't know God, can't comprehend such a change in attitude, personality and nature. They can't be released from their stress, they don't have the Real Shelter in the Storms of life, they don't have the true peace that passes all understanding. This is real change; the old way vs the new way, the old thinking vs. the new and better thinking, the old actions and reactions to the cares of life vs the new and better acts of wisdom in the midst of difficult situation through prayer and requests for wisdom to deal with all things. THIS IS HOW WE LIVE LIKE WE WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN!!! Live like Jesus!!! As we close this year and begin a new chapter, let's wake up January 1st saying, Thank you Lord for a new day and a new year, help me to be a better example for all those that I come in contact with on a daily basis in this new year. Help me to save souls and maintain my path toward heaven. And then say, I praise you, O God, for you are a blessing to my life. Live like you want to go to heaven in 2011. LET GOD BE GLORIFIED!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! MEDITATE ON THESE THINGS THIS FINAL WEEK OF 2010!!!

The Need For A Spiritual Reality Check- 12/20/2010
This week's Meditation Moments is a real exciting one. It is inspired by a lesson that I preached at the Freeport-Roosevelt Church of Christ in Long Island, NY. About a week ago I saw one of the sisters from that congregation and she informed me that she had video recorded it and posted on youtube. Well, that night when I got home I went on youtube, put my name in the search box and well, what do you know, there I was, looking handsome in my brown and peach Sunday best (LOL!) Anyway, I preached on the topic that is documented at the top of this blog article. We will focus our attention in this article on our need for a spiritual reality check.
One day there was a young man who had stolen a car. As he drove away he took it on a joy ride and after a while he parked the car in the driveway of his parent's house. Well, the owner of the car had reported the car stolen and the police got the description of the vehicle and went searching for it. As they drove around they eventually came to this house where the car was. They went up to the door and when they knocked the father came to the door, after a long conversation with the police the father was placed in handcuffs and taken away in the police cruiser. All along the boy stay in the distance and watched as this whole situation unfolded. Soon after, the son went to go and visit his father in jail and, in their conversation, asked him, "Why did you do this for me?", and the father answered, "so that you could have another chance to do right."
All too often in our lives we make mistakes, sometimes we know what the consequences are and do it anyway and sometimes we don't think about the consequences of things we do. Regardless of either one, we do need a rude awakening to help us to "come back to our senses" like the prodigal son had to do, we do need to be told, "sell all you have and give to the poor if you want to have eternal life," like the rich young ruler had to be told, and we do have to be told, "if we have ought with our brother, go and make it right before making your sacrifice at the alter," like we were encouraged to do in the sermon on the mount. No matter where we are in our lives, we are sinners and need to be reminded that our God came in the form of His One and Only Son so that He could die for us and take away our sins. I think we realize what He did for us but I think we forget to show True Spiritual Appreciation. You see, earthly appreciation is always commendable but when you show spiritual appreciation to God our Saviour earns greater commendation from Him.
In our lives, as we function under the earthly umbrella of life and liberty we must realize that He gave us this life and offered to us these liberties (freedom) and there greater reality check than when He checks us before we "wreck ourselves". I encourage you to look at and listen to the excerpts that are provided for your encouragement and spiritual build-up. Living Up To The Expectations
Abraham Lincoln once said, "The best thing about the future is that it only comes once." We know that in life there are uncertainties and then there are EXPECTATIONS. When we were growing up we were expected to learn all that we can from our parents so that we could be successful. When we started going to school we were expected to listen to the teacher, attend classes and do homework in order to be successful. Many of us are in school and many of us work, no matter which one it is, we are expected to do it in order to accomplish our goals. Notice: all these steps in life are expectations leading to success. Without expectation, though, there is no reaching. Without knowledge there is no teaching.
This brings us to the topic of this week's Meditation Moments, "Living Up To The Expectation." God has expectations for us to live up to. This topic has been inspired by my favorite passage of scripture, Philippians 4:13, Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ Who Strengthens Me." Paul had gone many trials, but before he even started preaching he was a killer of the ones that proclaimed the name of Christ. The same Christ that he passionately persecuted was the same Christ that he passionately preached about. He was imprisoned for preaching the Word of Christ. Now, to many of us, we would have expected him to falter under the pressure and keep with the "woe is me" attitude (like we do oftentimes) but Paul did what God expected him to do. He kept a positive spiritual attitude, was singing and praying in the prison with Silas in Philippi and saved a whole household, the Philippian jailor and his family.
You see, Jesus reminded us that we would have tribulation, he encouraged us through his brother James to "count it all joy in tribulation." He promised us that our victory is already His. So what are His expectations for us? He expects us to have a strong prayer life which shows our trust in Him. He expects us to show our faith through our actions when we function in our circle of life. He expects us to recognize the hope we have of heaven because Jesus died, was buried and rose again. Our expectation should be to do all that we can to fulfill His promises so that we could be with Him in heaven with all the righteous. Its not easy but it is possible, "all things are possible with Him." He makes things more certain and gives us full assurance. God didn't create us without expectation but He also didn't leave us without promise of reward for being ever-pleasing to Him. LET'S LIVE UP TO GOD'S EXPECTATIONS, HE EXPECTS GREATER THAN WE EXPECT OF OURSELVES!!!

Special in the Eyes of God
Meditation Moments 11/29/10- Special in the Eyes of God
Good Day Young Adults. I hope your day finds you well. I am starting a new process of delivering to you the meditation moments. I have sent it to you via a blog that I have set up. On here you will be able to post comments and questions, as well as, follow me on this journey by clicking the "follow" button on the right hand side. Please let me know your feedback on it.
Do you know how special you are in the sight God? Do you know how blessed you are to be in the presence of such Greatness? People that are in the presence of Lebron James feel fortunate, people who are in the presence of Oprah feel fortunate, people in the presence of Barack Obama feel fortunate but do we feel forutanate to be in the presence of the Almighty God, the One who created each of those individuals? When we became Christians, we took on a life that provided us completeness, stability, blessings, hope and a host of other things, not to forget salvation (being saved!!!) We took on a life that gave the way and the means to be different, better, peculiar, SPECIAL!!! This being considered, we did not take on a life that is the proverbial, walk in the park. This life comes with the challenge of an enemy that creates trials, temptations, misdirection, deception, confusion, and among all and including all, SIN!!! He puts obstacles in our way to make us stumble. He doesn't let up! He is an enemy of God, not of you!!! It makes it all the harder for us because he wants nothing more than for us to turn away from God, our Father. Before the world began God put together a SPECIAL plan, with a SPECIAL purpose so that all who obey Him could live a SPECIAL life. He thought about us and that makes us special. The chosen children of God in the Old Testament had disobeyed God and were under an imperfect covenant created because they broke the covenant with God through their disobedience but when Jesus came to die on the cross, it laid to rest the Old Covenant and created a perfect, New Covenant where we could make spiritual sacrifices and not physical sacrifices, where we could have a perfect mediator and not a man (the Levitical priests of the OT) mediating for us and, most importantly, He gave us an opportunity to be a member of a Kingdom that could never be defeated or destroyed because He gave victory before we started fighting the war with Satan. All of this makes us special in His eyes. So what does this mean for us? How can we show Him that we value Him as our Creator, Saviour and Almighty God? How can we show Him that we feel fortunate to be in His Holy and Divine presence? We show Him by letting our lights shine, by glorifying God in our bodies, by loving our enemies, by acknowledging His power through displaying great patience when we feel our carnal man getting impatient. We show Him that we feel fortunate to be in His presence by making time to study His word, instead of finding time in our busy schedules. We show Him by sharing the Gospel with our friends, relatives and neighbors. This is what makes us Special in the Eyes of God!!! he sees a young man and a young woman that is capable of accomplishing Spritual greatness, not the Greatness He Holds but the greatness that stimulated through our righteous living. He is worthy of our praise but are we proving our worth to Him through our work in Him.
Pslams 139:13-14 says, "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
We are God's wonderful creation and he gave us all potention and talents to fullfill his purpose."

We show Him that we feel fortunate to be in His presence by making time to study His word, instead of finding time in our busy schedules. We show Him by sharing the Gospel with our friends, relatives and neighbors. This is what makes us Special in the Eyes of God!!! he sees a young man and a young woman that is capable of accomplishing Spritual greatness, not the Greatness He Holds but the greatness that stimulated through our righteous living. He is worthy of our praise but are we proving our worth to Him through our work in Him.
Pslams 139:13-14 says, "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
We are God's wonderful creation and he gave us all potention and talents to fullfill his purpose."
